The mission of Magpie Literacy is to unlock the greater reader in every child. We are developing research-based PK-8+ digital literacy tools to build every student’s proficiency in foundational literacy skills. We've launched a K-2 supplemental digital tool that can be used in schools year-round to support the foundational reading development of students in kindergarten through second grade.
In 45-60 minutes each week, students engage in developmentally appropriate instructional videos and educational games to build proficiency in the critical foundational literacy skills: phonemic awareness, alphabet knowledge, decoding and encoding, word chaining, morphology, print concepts, high-frequency words, and meaningful reading experiences.
What skills will students learn and practice?
In Kindergarten through Grade 2, the Magpie Literacy tool will cover:
- Phonemic awareness
- Print concepts
- Alphabet knowledge
- Sound-spelling patterns
- Decoding and encoding
- Morphology
- High-frequency word decoding and encoding
- Applied reading in connected texts (read aloud, shared reading, independent reading)
