Magpie’s K-2 grade level curricula include:
- Systematic grade level skill building with review of critical content from the previous grade in the opening unit(s) and advanced content in later units
- Evidence based learning activities with isolated skill practice, integrated skill practice, and application of skills in authentic reading experiences
- Immediate feedback & additional practice attempts to build mastery over time

New Learning Activities
Students will experience Magpie’s New Learning Activities embedded into their current and future lessons across the K-2 grade level curricula:
- Swap Hop Word Chaining (K-2)
- Sorting with Images (1-2)
- Sorting with Words (1-2)
- Morphology Removing (1-2)
- Lesson Wrap Up Videos summarizing learning in each lesson (K-2)
Additional Review Content
Students will experience additional review content at the end of their current K-2 grade level curricula:
- Strategic review of the most important grade level content and additional ‘at bats’
- Sufficient content through June 2026 using Magpie for up to 60 minutes/week
Magpie recommends students learn with Magpie for 45-60 minutes each week to finish the most critical content in their grade level by the end of the school year:
- Kindergarten: recommended to complete at least Unit 5 Lesson 68 (out of 8 total Units, 101 Lessons)
- Grade 1: recommended to complete at least Unit 6 Lesson 70 (out of 8 total Units, 93 Lessons)
Students spending more than Magpie’s recommended weekly dosage may complete or may have already completed their Magpie grade level curriculum before the end of the school year. Students who finish or have finished their Magpie grade level curriculum will have additional content available in March:
Kindergarten
After completing the 8 units of the Magpie kindergarten curriculum, Magpie kindergarteners will begin
- The Magpie Grade 1 experience with significant review of kindergarten content and skills and new learning activities embedded across the curriculum
Grade 1
After completing the 8 units in the Magpie Grade 1 curriculum, Magpie first graders will begin
- Review Unit 9: Strategic review of first grade content and skills with the addition of new learning activities and new shared reading experiences focused on fluency and comprehension with Magpie first grade books
- If first graders finish Unit 9 review content (estimated to take ~15 weeks learning with Magpie for 60 minutes each week, or through June) they will begin the Magpie Grade 2 experience
Grade 2
After completing the 8 units in the Magpie Grade 2 curriculum, Magpie second graders will begin
- Review Unit 9: Strategic review of second grade content and skills with the addition of new learning games and new shared reading experiences that include high frequency word instruction and are focused on fluency and comprehension with Magpie second grade books
- If second graders finish the second grade review content (estimated to take ~15 weeks learning with Magpie for 60 minutes each week, or through June) they will see a Completion Screen

Magpie Teachers can check their Magpie Usage Report to see each student’s weekly minutes and lessons completed in Magpie as well as their Current Lesson in the K-2 curriculum

- After Unit 8, Current Lesson will read “Additional Learning in Progress” when students have begun the Magpie Grade 1 learning experience with review of kindergarten content in the first units

- For Units 1-9: Current Lesson will read the Unit and Lesson #
- After Unit 9, Current Lesson will read “Additional Learning in Progress” when students have begun the Magpie Grade 2 learning experience with review of first grade content in the first units

Grade 2:
- For Units 1-9: Current Lesson will read the Unit and Lesson #
- Once students complete Unit 9, their current lesson will read the final lesson of Unit 9 (Lesson 146)
- The Magpie Usage Report will continue to report the number of minutes and lessons completed for each student each week

Magpie Individual Student App Usage Report
- Grade 1 and 2 students now have 9 Units to complete (143 Lessons in Grade 1 and 146 Lessons in Grade 2). The Percentage Complete will shift to include 9 Units instead of 8 Units. Unit 9 lessons will be reflected in the Lesson Details table at the bottom.
