- Use the filter to select one or multiple schools and grades to see aggregate ROAR data for each subtest. E.g., if all schools and grades are selected, the data displayed will be aggregated across all schools and grades; if select schools and grades are selected, the data will be displayed for the selected school(s) and grade(s) only.
- Select Aggregate or Comparison view.
ROAR-Letter Summary: an inventory assessment of all 26 letter names (uppercase and lowercase) and the most common sounds. We report ROAR-Letter scores as the percentage of items students score correctly across uppercase letter names, lowercase letter names, and sounds in a composite score, as well as scores for each of the three subskills. We do not report percentiles which compare students’ scores to other students’ scores.
- Scores are reported in 3 categories based on students’ overall percentage of items answered correctly and include the number of students who fall into each category:
- 1-25% Correct
- 26-49% Correct
- 50-100% Correct
ROAR-Phoneme Summary: a screener assessment of students’ mastery of phonological awareness skills including students’ ability to manipulate the individual sounds in words through elision (the process of omitting sounds or parts of words) and sound matching tasks (first sound matching and last sound matching). ROAR-Phoneme scores are reported as percentiles compared to a nationally normed sample and tell you how your students’ scores compare to other similar-age students’ scores.
- Scores are reported in 3 categories based on students’ percentiles compared to a nationally normed sample and include the number of students’ scores who fall into each category:
- At/Above Average: 50th-100th Percentile
- Below Average: 26th-49th Percentile
- Significantly Below Average: 1st-25th Percentile
ROAR-Word Summary: a screener assessment of students’ ability to quickly recognize single words and determine if they are real or nonsense words. ROAR-Word scores are reported as percentiles compared to a nationally normed sample and tell you how your students’ scores compare to other similar-age students’ scores.
- Scores are reported in 3 categories based on students’ percentiles compared to a nationally normed sample and include the number of students’ scores who fall into each category:

ROAR-Sentence Summary: a screener assessment of students’ silent sentence reading efficiency. Students are asked to silently read sentences and accurately determine if they are true or false. ROAR-Sentence scores are reported as percentiles compared to a nationally normed sample and tell you how your students’ scores compare to other similar-age students’ scores.

ROAR Subtest Detail Reports
Click the ROAR subtest tab to view student scores for that ROAR subtest only.
ROAR-Letter and ROAR-Phoneme Detail pages include more detailed data on the subskills assessed. ROAR-Word and ROAR-Sentence Detail pages include the same composite data shared on the Overview page as there is no additional subskill data for these two subtests.
ROAR-Letter Detail Report
- This report shows the percentage of students in each of the three performance categories for each of the three subskills assessed in ROAR-Letter:
- Uppercase letter names
- Lowercase letter names
- Letter-sounds
- As an assessment inventory of all letter names and sounds, schools may set goals for percentage of letter names and sounds that students should know at different points in time across Kindergarten and First Grade. For example, by the End of Year Kindergarten assessments, a school may expect students to know most of their letter names and sounds, but may not expect students to know most of their letter names and sounds at the Start of Year.
ROAR-Phoneme Detail Report
- This report shows the percentage of students in each of the three performance categories for each of the three subskills assessed in ROAR-Phoneme (at each of three time points across the year):
- First sound matching
- Last sound matching
